First, feminism itself here is being addressed as meaning pertaining to a woman using her agency over her own narrative.
I often see memes comparing Kylie Jenner to Malala, the implication being that Kylie is not a good role model because she is not using her privilege in the media’s eye for the purpose of shaping policy.
As a policy writer and abolitionist who follows the media I find this comparison offensive in the extreme. Kylie Jenner is also a role model even if I dislike her; she runs a social media empire and has launched cosmetic lines and I’m not sure ages 21 yet. She inspires her fans, who I’m sure are capable of intersectional thinking and are capable of admiring both women as symbols of feminine empowerment.
