To Make Glad – The Origin of the Warrior

In several of the ancient hegemonic cultures, there was the practise of having some sort of arena where there was a caste of men and women who were thrust into the public theatre to entertain a dull mass with their heroic deaths and sacrifices.

The word glad and the flower gladius come from the Latin for “sword”, but more specifically, for the sword of an arena slave, whose life was to fight to the death for the public entertainment.
